Founded by violinist, Brian Silber in 2007, Island Music Journeys is a non-profit organization striving to fulfill its mission of fostering cultural and social development on the island of St. Croix, U.S Virgin Islands. We are proudly sponsored by the St. Croix Foundation.
Island Music Journeys is dedicated to building our unique ‘KIDS OF NOTE-ABILITY‘ music program for the youth on St. Croix. Over the past 4 years, we have invited some of the world’s premier acoustic musicians to St. Croix and surrounding US Virgin Islands for special concert performances for the benefit of public and private school children and all our residents, growing a musical and cultural mecca and enriching the lives of all who live and visit our beautiful paradise. Our goals are to expose students in the primary/secondary public and private schools to a healthy and diverse variety of accomplished musicianship, experiencing new and exciting styles of music and instrumentation via special school performances, and to provide the opportunity for interested music students to attend music workshops and demonstrations by visiting guest artists. Exposure to this level of excellence is intended to inspire and to bring a world of possibilities to light for the young and impressionable spirit.
In creating our ‘KIDS OF NOTE-ABILITY‘‘ Music Academy, we hope that this serves as an accessible and affordable resource for the continuing instruction and mentoring necessary for our island’s youth while fostering self-esteem, confidence and pride. Instruments, sheet music, and related musical necessities will be provided along the way, offering small group instruction and opportunities for individual direction by local music professionals on a variety of instruments, including piano, acoustic guitar, steel pan and percussion. Instruction on other instruments, including woodwinds, brass, and strings is planned.
